N°1 by Dourthe - Bordeaux Rouge

For N°1 Red, the remarkable task of seeking out the finest terroirs is also undertaken in the extensive Bordeaux vineyard to pinpoint exactly those areas where Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon have the best chance of reaching full maturity. Forging strong partnerships with growers guarantees optimal and consistent fruit quality. From tending the vine all the way through to the harvest, the growers work in close collaboration with the Dourthe winemakers. The finest batches of N°1 Red mature 12 months in new French oak barriques where the tannins from oak integrate harmoniously with those present in the wine, adding roundness, and balance. The complex aromas are enhanced by several batches being aged to perfection in small 80 hl wooden tanks.

Tasting Notes

N°1 Bordeaux red 2020 is intense dark garnet in colour. Enticing on the nose, exuding aromas of red and black berry fruits (cherries and Morello cherries), which intermingle with delicately oaked notes. Initially fruit-laden and highly perfumed, developing generous, incredibly fresh, fleshy character on the palate. Concentrated in structure, with lovely depth, evolving against a backdrop of velvety tannins. Very well-balanced overall, culminating in a flavoursome finish of impressive length. A masterclass in powerful Bordeaux of great poise.
